I am in my fourth year of an applied PhD in the Institute for the Psychology of Elite Performance at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ, working in collaboration with Manchester City Football Club. I am responsible for undertaking academic research to advance our understanding of the multiple pathways predicting performance-under-pressure, alongside providing evidence-based psychology recommendations to coaches and staff (primarily) in the Foundation Development Phase.
When working with elite coaches or members of Multidisciplinary Teams, I rely on the knowledge and skills I have developed in researching performance-under-pressure to deliver evidence-based applied psychology recommendations.
The hardest challenge of my PhD has been working in Manchester – away from regular, direct contact with my supervisory team. However, the support I have received, whether online or face-to-face when travelling to the university, has been fantastic.
My supervisory team are extremely knowledgeable and always willing to talk. Their guidance and support are the reason why I am emerging as a competent, young academic with significant applied experience. I would highly recommend any student who is passionate about sport psychology to study in the Institute for the Psychology of Elite Performance at ³ÉÈËVRÊÓƵ.
