My research interests are focused on safety of acute care with an emphasis on the role of patients, teams and digital systems.
- Patient's experience is key for the description of quality of services. But how do we assess Patient Reported Experience in the transient environment of acute and emergency care where patients might move between multiple teams within hours of days?
- Safety in healthcare often hinges on the ability of individuals to function under pressure in teams. Teamwork is often not assessed in clinical exams. The way we assess individual students in highly competitive exams might negatively shape their attitude towards collaboration. How might we better train individuals' for working in teams and how do we assess individuals' quality of teamwork in exams?
- Electronic health records are the most expansive investment for any hospital often costing 10 figure sums. Surprisingly little is known about the impact of electronic health records on patient safety. How do we assess and benchmark the quality and safety of new digital systems?
